Unearthed: The Power Of Gardening
You'll be able to see the British Library Living Knowledge Network panel exhibition called 'Unearthed: The Power of Gardening', which will explore the transformative power of gardening. Gardening is so much more than the nation’s favourite pastime. 'Unearthed' celebrates gardening as a force for creativity, resilience and connection. From the people who have fought for the right and space to garden to the stories of the plants we use for food and medicine, discover how gardening has shaped our lives, our communities, and our planet. Find the exhibition at Winton Library in July, and look out for our special gardening-related events.

Car Nights At Poole Quay
Poole Quay will be hosting a unique, themed car event every Friday evening in July and August from 6pm – 9pm, showcasing a great line-up of popular car manufacturers. Car owners will be able to meet up with fellow enthusiasts, and spectators will get to enjoy a close-up look at the impressive vehicles on display. Themed Nights for 2025 are: 18th July – Land Rovers, Emergency & Military Vehicles, 25th July – British Classic Cars, 1st August – Super Cars & Subarus, 8th August – TVRs & Jaguars, 15th August – Hot Rods & American Cars, 22nd August – Minis & Minors and 29th August – Japanese. There is free entry onto the quayside for car owners whose vehicles match the evening’s theme.

Purify Festival 2025 - Moonacre Partyfield, Sturminster Marshall
A family friendly music and wellness event, working to build a happier and healthier community. It will be a weekend full of music, with over 2 music stages. All of the artists are from the local music scene, sharing original music. The festival is not just about the music, but also about the immersive visual experience, and so be prepared to be mesmerised by stunning stage designs, lighting effects, and the beautiful grounds. You'll also be able to take a break from the crowds and relax at the acoustic forest, which will be featuring unplugged artists, in the forest teepee. Throughout the weekend, there will also be several workshops, from fitness classes such as boxercise and yoga, to wellness workshops to include laughter yoga and cacao ceremonies. The kids zone includes inflatable castles and slides, outdoor games, circus workshops and even bubble fairies. They will be raising money for local mental health services. Wareham Carnival Weekend
On the Friday from 7:30pm, it's Music Night on the Rec. On Saturday there's more live music in the afternoon, and the Carnival procession day in on the Sunday. It starts at 1pm on North Street, followed by Fun on the Rec for the rest of the day, with stalls, food, carnival bar and arena events. Search for 'Wareham Carnival' to find out more.

Holdenhurst Village Summer Fair - On the Village Green
There will be lots going on all afternoon, with a BBQ, children's activities and a bouncy castle, home made cakes, live music and much more. In the village hall they'll be serving lunches and teas.

Corfe Castle Festival of Archaeology
They'll be welcoming the Time Team to celebrate all things archaeology. The weekend will include guided walks around the castle, as well as talks and activities which will include the chance to have a go at a mock excavation. You'll also be able to play spot the difference between Roman and Anglo-Saxon poo, and there will be Medieval dress up, archaeology demonstrations, blacksmithing, stonemasonry... and much more.

They'll be showcasing classic motors and bikes at Sturts Farm, with live music, local food and much more.

Volunteering Fair - Poole Adult Learning Centre, Dolphin Centre, Poole
Visit the volunteering fair hosted by Skills And Learning Adult Community Education and Community Action Network on Tuesday 22nd July, at the Poole Adult Learning Centre, Dolphin Centre in the centre of Poole. Join us for a community-focused Volunteering Event designed to connect local people with a wide range of volunteering opportunities across Dorset. This drop-in event brings together local charities, community groups, and organisations looking for volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Attendees will have the chance to meet representatives, learn about flexible roles, and find ways to get involved that suit their interests and availability. Thanks to Sport England, the summer bushcraft sessions are now free of charge. It's your chance to embrace the spirit of adventure and learn to thrive in the great outdoors. You’ll gain hands-on experience with essential survival skills, including basic knife techniques, fire lighting, shelter construction, and identifying plants and trees. All participants must be at least 7 years old, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that the boat fare and admission fees still apply, which are payable on the day.

Get ready to groove to the rhythms of reggae, ska, and dancehall from a line-up of talented artists. It doesn't matter if you're a reggae music fan, or if you're just looking for a fun time, this event is perfect for music lovers of all kinds. Swanage Carnival
Run by volunteers this annual eight day event is held in Swanage raising money for good causes. Last year they celebrated another successful year, giving away £30,900 to 23 selected organisations. With over 100 events across the week, highlights will include the Red Arrows and the Global Stars Airshow, plus there will be returning favourites such as the annual procession, Dinosaur Derby and a visit from Titan the Robot. The theme for 2025 is ‘Cirque du Swanage’, and as part of the festivities, Swanage Carnival is welcoming The Steamship Circus, which is a contemporary circus and performance group. Dorset 20:20 Art Society Summer Exhibition, Church House, Wimborne High Street
Our group of friendly, talented artists from around Dorset and the surrounding areas will be showcasing our work at Church House, right next door to the iconic Wimborne Minster. This inspiring exhibition features a rich mix of paintings, drawings, collage, and mixed media. Whether you're an art lover, a collector, or simply curious, come and support Dorset's thriving creative community, and you may find a painting to take home with you.

Littledown Family Funday
From walking dinosaur shows to virtual reality sessions – there really is something for everyone. The Family Fun Day will be taking place outside, within the 47 acres of parkland with some activities taking place inside the Littledown centre. Some activities are free to participate however there are charges for other activities. Car parking is available but limited – and so they advise that you travel to the event on foot, by bike or public transport if possible. Also note that the parkland is dog free, so please leave your doggies at home.

Odyssey: In aid of ME research - Key West Bar and Grill, Pier Approach

Odyssey are fronted by Steven Collazo, son of the band’s original lead singer, the late Lillian Lopez. The band had a number of UK hits, including ‘Use It Up and Wear It Out’ as well as ‘Going Back to My Roots’, ‘Inside Out’ , ‘Native New Yorker’ and ‘If You’re Looking For A Way Out’. The concert is being presented by Steve Heald, with profits going to ME Research, as Steve has many years experience of having ME himself.

Big Wild Sleep Out - RSPB Arne

This is a unique camping experience, where wildlife and the stunning nature reserve is the focus of the event. You'll be waking up to the sounds of nature at sunrise, on an exclusive part of the reserve. Your ticket will include supper and breakfast at the reserve. Wareham Wednesdays are back this August, bringing four weeks of lively summer celebrations to Wareham Quay. The quay will come alive with music, entertainment, and a fantastic community atmosphere.

Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th August - 11am to 4pm
RNLI Poole Celebration Weekend - RNLI College, West Quay Road and Poole lifeboat Station

It will be a weekend of celebrations as they commemorate two milestones in Poole. This year, the RNLI College turns 21, and the volunteers at RNLI Poole Lifeboat Station are celebrating 160 years of saving lives. On the Saturday the party is at the RNLI College with live music, food and drink, circus workshops and face painting. You can even meet their mascot Stormy Stan. There’s also behind-the-scenes tours of the College facilities, so you can see where RNLI lifesavers get trained (this is bookable on the day). The celebrations on the Sunday will be taking place at Poole Lifeboat Station on Poole Quay, where you'll be able to take a look around their floating boathouse, watch the demo’s and enjoy their stalls. Country Dog Show 2025 - Margaret Green Animal Rescue, Church Knowle

It will be a fantastic day out for your dogs and all the family, raising vital funds for rescue animals in need. As well as the Dog Show, there will also be a host of other entertainment, including have-a-go-agility, Rescue Dog Reunion, dog parkour, a performance by the award-winning Rock Choir, welly wanging, axe throwing, archery and much more. There will also be artisan stalls to browse and hot food and refreshments available. Gates will open at 11am and the Dog Show will begin from 12pm. Purbeck Valley Folk Festival 2025 - Purbeck Valley Farm, Valley Road, Corfe Castle

The festival is packed with brilliant music across 5 stages, as well as music workshops, sessions, and open mic events. There's also dance workshops and ceilidhs, delicious food stalls, festival stalls selling artisan wares, a makers market, Carl’s Comedy Club and much more. There's also the Purbeck Rising competition where you can vote for your favourite, and so bringing some new talent to the stages. As it's the Isle of Purbeck, the camping is in an idyllic landscape with beautiful views, with parts of the campsite looking right across to Corfe Castle. Christchurch River Pageant 2025
The Christchurch, Boscombe and Southbourne Rotary Clubs are bringing back the traditional river pageant as part of this year’s Christchurch Carnival. Christchurch Rotary Club is launching an exciting new fundraising event on the River Stour, from Tuckton Tea Rooms to Christchurch Quay. The pageant parade will take place from 12 noon and will feature decorative floats, boats and other watercraft, including novelty rafts, stand-up paddleboards and canoes. The pageant will finish with two dragon boat teams racing down the river. The aim is to raise money for Hengistbury Head Outdoors, the Bourne Water Dragons and the Pink Champagne Breast Cancer Charities. Open Air Theatre: Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' on Brownsea Island

Swanage Folk Festival
Folk takes over Swanage again with a Dorset twist. The Swanage Folk Festival is back from September 5–7, and it’s packing more local flavour than ever. With free concerts, local bands, and quirky seaside traditions, it’s a weekend that shows off Dorset’s musical spirit. Swanage turns into a stage for over 60 dance sides, including Dorset legends like Hobos Morris and Dorset Buttons, alongside a vibrant Sea Dance tradition – yes, they literally dance in the sea. Catch two afternoons of free music with eight great bands, including The Savage Underdogs and AllSort’d, plus a craft fair and ceilidh. Workshops? Try your hand at ukulele, French and Bollywood dancing, and more. It’s not just a good time – it’s a good cause. The festival is entirely volunteer-run and raises money for Swanage Scouts, AllSort’d, and more. £8,000+ donated over two years and counting. For locals, by locals – with a warm Dorset welcome. Amelia's Rainbow Firewalk at Café Riva In Southbourne
They're looking for brave souls to take on the firewalk to help local children. Firewalk UK will give you full training so that you can brave the 15 feet of hot coals! Entry is £30 and they're suggesting a target of at least £100 sponsorship, to help children with serious of life limiting conditions. The event is for over 14's only, and there's also a 'Legowalk' if you want another challenge on the same day. Anyone over 5 can try the Lego bricks. Paddington Bear At Swanage Railway
The chance to meet everyone’s favourite bear Paddington at Swanage Railway. You'll need to purchase a timed event ticket to meet Paddington - so why not have a family fun filled day out on the Railway. It operates full-size steam and diesel passenger trains along the five and a half miles of line, from Norden to Corfe Castle, and down to Swanage. The Paddington meet and greet will take place at Harmans Cross Village Hall which is next to Harmans Cross Station. Dogs are not permitted in the village hall. Don’t forget your marmalade sandwiches.
